Applications:

1. Serves as a raw material for guanidine salts and melamine derivatives. Reacting dicyandiamide with acids produces various guanidine salts. The reaction of dicyandiamide with benzonitrile yields phenylmelamine, an intermediate for coatings, laminates, and molding powders.

2. Acts as a dye-fixing agent. Dicyandiamide-formaldehyde resin is used for dye fixation.

3. Functions in fertilizer formulations. Dicyandiamide-containing compound fertilizers inhibit nitrifying bacteria activity, regulate nitrogen conversion rates in soil, reduce nitrogen loss, and enhance fertilizer efficiency.

4. Utilized as a fine chemical intermediate. In pharmaceuticals, it produces guanidine nitrate and sulfonamide drugs. Also employed in synthesizing thiourea, nitrocellulose stabilizers, rubber vulcanization accelerators, steel surface hardeners, artificial leather fillers, adhesives, and the pharmaceutical intermediate 5-azacytosine (via reaction with formic acid).
