Applications of Guanidine Hydrochloride:
1. Used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, and other organic syntheses. It serves as a crucial raw material for manufacturing sulfonamide drugs and folic acid. Additionally, it functions as an antistatic agent for synthetic fibers and is essential in producing sulfadiazine, sulfamerazine, sulfamethazine, and folic acid.
2. Acts as a strong denaturant in total RNA extraction experiments. Guanidine hydrochloride solutions dissolve proteins, disrupt cellular structures, and destroy the secondary structure of nucleoproteins, causing their dissociation from nucleic acids. Furthermore, RNase can be inactivated by reducing agents such as guanidine hydrochloride.
